I Ran a 5k! Twice!

Quite a few months ago I talked my friend Megan into training with me to run a 5k. I walked entirely too long in very high heels on uneven flooring in Vegas for Reed's wedding and hurt my knee so we had to take it slow for a while. Once we worked back up to running we mostly got back on track using the Couch-to-5k training program (it took us a bit longer than 9 weeks because of life and such).

Entirely too early in the morning before the race

Crossing the finish line for the first time EVER!

Fourth of July Freedom Run 5k
I completed the race in 40:24.9. I came in 15 out of 17 in my age group and 141 out of 170 overall. I was running a 13 minute mile. I ran and walked for this race and didn't have my water or gatorade with me. The race was also out in the open with no shade to speak of. It was great to finish the race but I was beat afterwards.

There was another 5k race right down the street from us two weeks later so we decided to run that one too. It was kind of a preview for yet another 5k in the same location in November that we're planning on running.

The Breeze in the Trees 5k
I completed the race in 44:23.6. I came in 14 out of 16 in my age group and 157 out of 172 overall. I was running a 14.17 minute mile. My goal for this race was to run the entire time, which I did. I ran the majority of the race with Megan and we ran with another lady for a while and we think that we slowed to her pace which is why I finished with a slower time. Either way I felt a whole lot better after this race. I had my gatorade with me and the majority of the race was in the shade.

Andrew showed up with the kids to both races and Peter actually saw me finish at the Breeze 5k (there was a playground at the 4th of July race). It was so stinking cute. He was so excited to see me so was Josie for that matter.

Gila Valley Temple

On Friday May 7th we went to the Gila Valley Temple open house out in Thatcher, AZ. We had decided a little late that we were going to go on that date so the only openings were at 9:30 or 9:45am. We figured we'd give ourselves a little time and go to the 9:45 slot. It's a 2.5 hour drive for us to get there and I just have to say there's not much between Tucson and the Gila Valley area. I'm really glad that we "decided" to go when we did because there was very little traffic on the way to and from and also we were one of the first tours to go through so it seemed like we had a little more time to look at everything. The temple is really small but beautiful.

The front of the temple

The tent is where the workers sit and put on the booties to protect the carpet

The side view.

Peter thought that the garden was a place to put our water bottles & his cup

You can kind of tell that I'm pregnant... I'm mostly still in the "looks fat" stage though

He's started to run!

He's actually quite good a going down stairs.

Just looking cute! He almost has hair!

There are two funny stories from this trip the first one is Andrew didn't want to ask a stranger to take our picture as a family in front of the temple so we don't have a family picture. He also said you either just get the people and a wall of the building you're taking the picture in front of or you get tiny people in front of a large building. Oh well. :) The other story is when they put the booties on Peter's feet he wasn't so sure what to think about them. So the first step he took was a large over exaggerated step as if that would do something about the weird thing on his feet.

Peter's New Talent

The past few days Peter has been taking steps 2 or 3 at a time before deciding it's easier to sit down and crawl. He's also quite good at standing for various lengths of time. :) Here's a picture to show off his new talent.

He's also wearing his new t-shirt. We just got it in the mail today! Doesn't it look awesome?!?! Thanks Audrey! You're the BEST EVER!!!

You can see what the shirt says a little better in this picture. :)
