Happy 2nd Birthday Peter!!!

I can't believe my little boy is 2! Today is his birthday but we did cake and ice cream on Tuesday while Andrew's brother Aaron and family were in town. We got Peter Blue the dog and some legos and we still have some matchbox cars to give to him. He was so stinking excited about the Blue's Clues doll and his cousin Shaun David was really excited about the legos. :)

Peter's birthday party. The bottom right picture just cracks me up!

Peter is a very active little boy. He definitely keeps us busy. He knows all of his letters and will even find letters in things. For example the other day we had spaghetti and one of the noodle was on the table and he said "S" because that's what it looked like. He will randomly say letters that he sees wherever we are. His favorite letter is E, or at least I assume it is because it's the letter he says most often. He's not quite as good with his numbers but he likes to say, "one, two, one, free." We've started working with him on his colors and everything at first is "yeyyow." He will say some of the other colors but I can't get him to say orange. He will specifically request to watch Blue's Clues and Cars. Each request has a hand motion. For Blue's Clues he raises his hands and flashes them like they do in the show. For Cars he does the sign for car where he pretends he's turning a steering wheel. He has started talking a lot more although there's still a lot we don't understand. He is adjusting well to having a little sister. He will give her things like blankets and toys when she's in her swing or bouncy chair. He will even try to put her pacifier back into her mouth. He likes to pat her tummy and say "nigh, nigh." Today he even tried playing with her. She was sitting in the bouncy chair and he put his mini tupperware pitcher between her legs and she would kick it off and he would put it back. He definitely wants more attention now that he sees Josie getting a lot of attention. His good way and my favorite way of getting our attention is to sit and snuggle with us on the couch while watching his shows. His bad way of getting attention is he throws really dramatic fits. He's always thrown fits but now he throws himself on the floor and rolls onto his back and kicks his legs in the air. He's still learning that fits don't get him anything. He's a very goofy boy and likes to take his mattress off of his bed. The other day I went to get him up from his nap and the mattress was across the room and he and all of his blankets and stuffed animals were on the bed.

I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish...

We're thinking that Peter finally needs his first haircut. We're still debating if we should do it or if we should take him somewhere and do it. We'll see.

Peter loves to rough house and was in heaven with Uncle Aaron staying at our house for a couple days. When someone asked is Uncle Aaron teasing you? Aaron said the answer to that question will always be yes. :)

Merry Christmas!!!

We enjoyed a nice quite Christmas at home with just our little family. Peter came running out of his room with nothing but his diaper on. It was a lot of fun to see Peter actually open presents this year. He was super excited about everything he got and he even decided to play with Josie's presents too (lower left picture).

Josie got two dolls and the rocker stacker from us. Her stocking was full of the bath toy letters (for Peter) just so there was something actually in her stocking. She's posing with her new book from Grandma Thatcher.

In Andrew's family it is a tradition to get your own box of cereal wrapped as a present under the Christmas tree. A few years ago I didn't do the cereal and Andrew was sad. So this year I made sure to do it. Everyone got cereal except for Josie, she'll get some next year though. :)

Gardner Kids Look-alike Meter

Apparently Peter looks more like I did when I was his age.

It's Andrew's fault that Josie has no hair. :)

Peter originally looked equally like both of us. :)

This makes sense since she looks just like Peter did.

The Kiddo's Stats

Peter had his 2 year check up today. He did really well. I think this is the first time that I've taken Peter to the doctor that he hasn't cried through the examination. He actually giggled a few times. In fact the only time he cried was when he got his shots and even then the crying didn't last very long at all. He definitely had fun exploring the exam room.

Peter's Stats:
Weight: 25 1/2 pounds - 20%
Height: 35 1/2 inches - 70%
Head: 19 1/2 inches - 75%

Josie had her 6 week check up today. She did well until it came time for the doctor to look in her eyes and mouth. She did not appreciate either of those intrusions. Then it was time for her shots and it was all downhill from there. Her first immunization was an oral dose that she needed to get at least 1/2 of it down for it to be effective. Here we ran into a problem, Andrew was sitting on the exam table holding Josie for this and it looked like she was swallowing it just fine until she projectile spit up half of her recently eaten lunch. So we paused and got her and Andrew and the floor cleaned up, luckily the nurse moved quick enough that she didn't get any on her. We tried again to get her to drink the vaccine and lo and behold the other half of her lunch came out in the same fashion. We decided after they were all cleaned up again that we'd hold off on trying that until later. So she got her shots in her legs and was extremely indignant that she got poked. Then the nurse looked at the oral vaccine and saw that there was a little less than half of it left. So she asked if we should try again, if she didn't get it today we would have had to come back another day just for that. I said there can't be much left to spit up so go ahead. Thankfully she kept it all down this time. Josie spits up a lot more than Peter ever did. In fact Andrew said the other day that she smells worse than Peter did and I told him that that's because she spits up more.

Josie's Stats:

Weight: 11 pounds 11 ounces - 90%
Height: 21 3/4 inches - 50%
Head: 14 3/4 inches - 50%

Here in Arizona the hospitals do a genetic screen blood test on all the babies then they send you home and you're supposed to get a 2nd test done about a week later. After we'd been home with Josie for about 10 days I got a call from the state lab people requesting Josie's doctor's information (I never got a call with Peter). Apparently she had tested positive/abnormal for Hypothyroidism and they wanted to make sure that her doctor got the results and also to make sure that I did the follow up test. We found out today that it came back normal, thank goodness! It had us a little worried but since she's growing just fine and is very active along with the normal test we don't have to worry about it. I had never heard of a baby having thyroid problems before.

Peter's Paparazzi

Lately when I pull out the camera to take a picture of Peter he will either shake his head at me and give me a deadpan look or he will quickly scamper out of the picture. The pictures below will explain why I feel like I'm Peter's personal Paparazzi. :) I guess I should be grateful that he doesn't try to touch the camera quite as often anymore.

I could have sworn he was just there.
