Peter Cracks Me Up!!!

Peter's toys are stored in a purple plastic chest that I got when I was a kid. I think Andrew was the first to put him in it with his toys but now he climbs in all on his own and just sits and plays. It is seriously cute! So he was playing with his toys today and I look over and he's sitting in his toy chest. I know I didn't have a picture of it so I snapped a few of him playing.

This is my new favorite picture of Peter. I just look at it and it cracks me up! He's got the, "What are you doing, Mom" look.

Just playing with his toys.

Every so often he'd look up at the TV.

He got tired of sitting in the bucket.

Again with the TV.

Another "What are you doing, Mom" look.

Stats of the 1 Year Old Peter

I started this post back in January so here's to finishing things that I've started.

We went to the doctor's today for Peter's 1 year well check up and he is as healthy as ever. He got 4 shots, 2 in his leg and 1 in each arm. He does not like getting shots but he recovers really well after the fact. He also doesn't like the doctor touching him, period.

Weight: 18 lbs 8 ozs (3rd %)
Height: 30.25 inches (55th %)
Head: 18.5 inches (70th %)

Since Peter's birthday is only 5 days after Christmas we were still visiting Andrew's brother and sister-in-law in Texas. Andrew got some cake pans for Christmas and so we used them for Peter's birthday cake. Peter even got his own little dual layer cake. They are all funfetti cakes with the funfetti frosting to go with. We had rainbow sherbet to go with (everything was really yummy).

Everything started out really well with us singing happy birthday to Peter and showing him the cake. But it all went down hill from there. You'll notice in the pictures that Peter is wearing his clothes before we gave him the cake and not afterwards. Andrew decided after we finished singing but before we gave him the cake that he need to be stripped. Peter didn't even want to try the cake and started crying and even threw it on the floor. He was the saddest little birthday boy I have ever seen.

He did get over it after we let him down out of his high chair and got to open presents. I think that perhaps there were two things we could have done better: first is decide to take the clothes off before putting him in his high chair and second do birthday time after a nap instead of after dinner. We will live and learn I guess.

Food, Food and More Food!!!

If you're on Facebook at all then you've noticed lately how much I've been posting about making food. Part of the reason is I've been finding really great deals on bulk amounts of produce through a food co-op called Bountiful Baskets. So far I have canned dill pickles and salsa on my own and apple pie filling with a friend using food from the co-op. I have also canned blueberry-lime jam with some friends because the blueberries were on sale.

All my pickles minus 2 jars. Andrew keeps asking if he can eat them yet.

I made 1 batch of each type of salsa, so I have 4 varieties.

 Aren't they pretty?

All my salsas set up for my salsa tasting open house. :)

Yummy!!!

I totally stole this idea from my friend Amanda.

What better place to store my canned food than in the kitchen?

Most of the apple pie filling. It's still on my counter since we just canned everything yesterday.

The rest of the apple pie filling.

I have also started once a month cooking (OAMC) with another friend. We've only done it once but we're  already planning our meals for next time. In fact we have a blog specifically to discuss and plan our meals: http://freezercookingexperiment.blogspot.com/. The reason I've finally been able to do OAMC is because I found an awesome freezer on craigslist for a reasonable price. I love being able to buy meat when it's on sale and stock up our freezer.

My lovely craigslist freezer (it's frostless)!

All stocked up after cooking all day and meat sales.

Yummy meals ready for eating.
